God has given Linda Kovarik the gift of a profound understanding and compassion along with the ability to touch those finding themselves stuck in that deep, dark chasm that the diagnosis of severe illness throws one in

Linda gently guides us back to biblical truths so often forgotten when tragic illness rears its ugly head. Her devotional writings have given me a change of attitude and a hopeful outlook in dealing with my own medical issues.

As well, two family members who were diagnosed with cancer also shared their deep praise for her encouragement.

My daughter said, “Mom, your friend bore me up on her shoulders and led me out of that disparaging place of grief I found myself in. I don’t even know her and I want to share her words with everyone I know.”

I now read Linda’s book as part of my weekly devotions. To start my days in the right frame of mind and to remind me that my Creator always has my back, I read devotion #11 titled “I Am Wonderfully Made.”

I know God led Linda’s mission on earth, and I can think of no greater accomplishment than this one Precious Pilgrim giving herself to bringing others out of the darkness and into the light of our loving Creator.

Everyone should have a copy of It’s Cancer in their arsenal of spiritual warfare.

Through these pages, Linda has become a personal blessing to my family and my Eternal friend. I hope she will become yours.

Though well-acquainted with illness, Linda Benz Kovarik faced each new day with hope and faith in God. Her beautifully written devotions reassure fellow travelers who are in the midst of physical, emotional, and spiritual trials that the peace and strength she found in her friendship and walk with Jesus will help them as well. In It’s Cancer! Linda’s gentle voice of experience rings true in her messages of comfort and encouragement. This book is perfect if you are facing an illness of any kind, and it would be a thoughtful gift for a loved one or friend.

Linda Kovarik, like so many living with a serious illness, had her bad days where she asked, Why God? She even had days when she despaired and yelled at God, but Linda knew from where her strength came. At times she followed the Lord, walking in His footsteps. Other times she walked with the Lord, side-by-side, talking things through with Him during the really difficult days and dark nights. And other times, in her weakness, she let herself be carried by Him. Linda’s light of God’s love and her trust in God is evident in every anointed word she wrote. It’s Cancer is a must read for yourself or a friend — it’s even more than a five star book!

Well done! What a blessing! A beautiful legacy! I especially like opening each day with a Scripture and bookending the devotional with a closing prayer. Offering a space for reflections periodically is a thoughtful addition, while the margins allow a little more space to jot down notes each day. The closing quote/thought is a lovely touch as a take-away for the day’s devotional. I also appreciate that each day is numbered in lieu of a date. This allows readers to skip around if desired.

The consistency of one who walked with God is exemplified within the pages of It’s Cancer!, the anointed legacy left for us by Linda Kovarik. Her encouraging devotions can be read one a week, one a day, or read aloud to a patient by the caregiver. Her written prayers are the cry of one dependent on God for faith and courage in the battle against cancer—cries that all readers with a serious illness can make their own.  Readers will grow in comfort and faith from Linda’s personal insights into the everyday challenges and victories of a cancer patient.

It’s Cancer! by Linda Benz Kovarik is an uplifting, encouraging book for those struggling with any illness. I even found it helpful while I dealing with a bout of mean poison ivy! For those living with cancer or other more serious illnesses, Linda’s voice of experience will bring soothing balm for the soul. She’s been there and done that, having been diagnosed with cancer on three separate occasions in her life. She isn’t imagining how it must feel to cope with life and illness — she KNOWS, and she shares her heartfelt meditations simply and beautifully.

I’m already thinking of people I’d like to send a copy of this book to. If you have people in your life (and who doesn’t?) with serious illness, especially cancer, you don’t have to struggle again with wondering what to say. Send them a copy of Linda’s book. She says it all, and much better than any of us who haven’t walked that path could. You will be thanked for this book. Cancer patients will relish the understanding and the encouragement that Linda has for them.

It’s Cancer is written from a very thoughtful and unique perspective — that of a fellow “pilgrim” (as the author refers to herself). She has travelled the journey of a cancer diagnosis, sharing her own personal experiences in a devotional / short story format, while empathizing with and encouraging the reader who is walking through the trial of cancer or other critical illness. Her writings are very real as she walks the journey with the reader. Yet, it is also peaceful as she provides a calm and gentle reminder of God’s promises and care for us. There is also space for personal written reflections by the reader. I would definitely recommend this beautiful devotional for anyone walking through the difficult trial of a cancer diagnosis or other chronic medical condition.
